STIL 2022 – Presenting TOFU to the Next Generation
The STIL — Salon des Technologies et de l’Innovation de Lausanne — was a special occasion for Oratek. Not a global trade show, not an industry event, but something different: a technology fair at EPFL, where students, researchers, and academics come to discover what is being built around them.
A Homecoming of Sorts
Several members of the Oratek team studied at EPFL. Coming back to present the TOFU board on that campus — to the people who are just starting their own engineering journeys — carried a meaning that goes beyond product visibility. It was an opportunity to share, to inspire, and to show what is possible when you commit to building something from the ground up.
A Different Kind of Audience
The academic and student audience at STIL engages with technology differently than the industrial or commercial visitors at a trade show. The questions are more exploratory, the curiosity is broader, and the conversations tend to go in unexpected directions. For a product like TOFU — compact, open, technically dense — that kind of engagement is energising.
Presenting to EPFL students also means presenting to the engineers, researchers, and founders of tomorrow. That is an audience worth investing time in.
Sharing What We’ve Built
At its core, the STIL 2022 participation was about sharing. Sharing the work, the thinking behind it, and the experience of building a Swiss-made embedded platform from idea to shipped product. For the Oratek team members who studied at EPFL, it was a chance to come back and give something back to a place that shaped them.
